Coronation Street?s William Roache, who has played Ken Barlow on the record longest-running British TV drama since it premiered more than 51 years ago, brings his one-man show to Canada in March. The six-city tour includes stops March 17 at Toronto?s Winter Garden Theatre and March 18 at Hamilton Place in Hamilton.
Roache, who turns 80 in April, can count the British Royal Family among his fans, but the show also has a loyal following in Canada, airing on CBC-TV. And it seems he has a supporter at 24 Sussex Dr. as well.
Roache says he received ?a personal letter on my golden anniversary? of appearing on Corrie from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, ?saying that he is a fan. I was really honoured, and would love to meet him and thank him.?
During his stage show, Roache will talk about landing the role of Ken Barlow as one of the founding members of the cast and his years on the Street. The audience can weigh in with their questions for Weatherfield?s resident intellectual during a Q&A session.
